I agree with Wayne as registration helps to remove the possibility of some anonimous person deliberately passing a virus or worm as a legitimate software. Further, traceabilty is key for servicing, and support.

Hello Wayne, and everyone on this blog,

In my humble opinion "certain types" of software especially software that target specific disciplines needs to be supported and therefore minimum requirements will help to protect consumers. Off the shelf software might not need this level of protection - "let the buyer beware".

I think the requirements to prove that a company is registered and have an address is necessary for doing business with Government Agencies but I am not sure.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I am delighted to be inolved the ICT committee. As we are now entertaining adhoc discussions, let me get the ball rolling.

Do you think that software vendors in JA. need to have a minimum requirement before being allowed to sell certain types of software?

For example when I signed up to be a reseller of the software that my company distributes we had to:

1. Prove that we are a registered company
2. Have a registered address of business
3. Have at least one certified technical person for the specific software on staff. etc.

Please note that we now have 12 persons registered. It would be good though if all registered members could start to engage in some discussions/comments by replying to this post.

Welcome Michael and thanks for your comments.

With this technology we should be able to be more productive because the work can go on 24 hours per day if we leave messages while we collaborate in doing the work.

You will indeed make a positive contribution to Jamaica.
